European Union commits to success in Johannesburg
17 June 2002 - European
Union foreign ministers agreed on Monday to take a leadership position on global
sustainable development issues. They will urge EU leaders meeting in Seville
this weekend to "convey a strong political message to the Johannesburg
Summit".
The ministers also welcomed the five key areas for action at the World Summit
on Sustainable Development identified by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan: water,
energy, health, agriculture, and biodiversity.
