The Fourth Preparatory Committee Meeting for the World Summit on Sustainable Development

PrepCom IV, the fourth preparatory meeting for the World Summit on Sustainable Development, will take place at the Bali International Convention Center. The meeting will include a 2-day segment from 27 29 May that will bring leaders from business together with representatives from governments and civil society organizations. This segment will allow all groups to provide constructive input into the summit preparatory process.

Energy, Industry and the World Summit on Sustainable Development

The Local Government Session, Local Action Moves the World, will open
on August 27 and run for three days. It is designed for Local Government

Initiatives (ICLEI) in cooperation with other major international local

was launched in April 2001 to act as a management resource to prepare

Conference: Stakeholder Action for our Common Future

The Implementation Conference is seeking to initiate and strengthen collaborative
stakeholder implementation of sustainable development. As such it is a
stepping-stone in a long-term process, which Stakeholder Forum started
in the autumn of 2001. Within the framework of type 1 & type 2 outcome
documents for the Johannesburg Summit, the Implementation Conference is
developing type 2 outcomes: partnership initiatives to further the implementation
of the sustainable agreements.

Summit Institute for Sustainable Development (SISD)

The Smithsonian Institution, in collaboration with the South Africa Department of Education, has created the SISD. The SISD will mobilise WSSD participants to present formal mini-courses on key Sustainable Development issues that will provide background, tools, and approaches for implementation of sustainable development policies. Water Dome

The main objective of the WaterDome is to create water awareness by organising
a dialogue between stakeholders at the Dome, located in Northgate, Johannesburg
- to be temporarily re-named the WaterDome. From 28 August - 3 September
2002, parallel to the World Summit, stakeholders from public and private
organisations in the water sector will get the opportunity to launch and
exhibit their water-related activities, policies, initiatives, new technologies,
products etc.
