Enterprises pave the way for sustainable development"There is another way that works". This is a mantra that IUCN Southern Africa will be shouting out about one of their projects at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg in August. Funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, IUCN's unique regional project will showcase eight African success stories. These are real examples of people who have had to rely on their own innovation and entrepreneurship, using local natural resources to create jobs and sustain their communities. And the stories are amazing. Eight enterprises, involving agriculture, tourism or crafts have been selected from Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. They are all viable businesses, and their showcasing at the WSSD is not only hats off to showing sustainable development is already alive and kicking in Southern Africa, but an opportunity for these entrepreneurs to benefit from the exposure at WSSD.
