Water Neutral legacy project launched14 August 2002 - Tokyo Sexwale, South African Business Co-ordinating forum Chair, urges Summit participants to Get Water Neutral! and help turn on the tap for those living in remote communities in South Africa who cannot quench their thirst without walking miles to the nearest stream. "Our consultant has calculated that the value of the water and sanitation to be used by the 65,000 delegates at the World Summit on Sustainable Development to be $170,000. To "balance the books" we are asking all who will be involved in the Summit to purchase a Water Neutral Offset Certificate. Water Neutral will use the funds generated to offset this consumption by the creation of a legacy project that will last many, many years beyond the Summit."
