Date Change for Johannesburg Summit - Final UN Vote Friday 21 December
17 December 2001- A resolution setting the new dates for the Johannesburg
World Summit to 26 August to 4 September 2002 will go forward to the UN
General Assembly on Friday 21 December for final approval. Participation of
heads of State/Government will be from 2 to 4 September.
This resolution, drafted 12 December by the Second Committee of the United
Nations General Assembly, is expected to be approved by the General Assembly
without changes when it takes up the report of the Second Committee on
Friday, 21
December 2001.
CSD, the UN secretariat for the World Summit, have also been asked to
establish details of the events to be held in partnership with stakeholders,
including the short stakeholder event involving "the highest level of
representation from major groups and Governments" and the roundtables to be
held at the level of heads of State/Government.
