| Transfer of key technical skills to existing and potential employees in Nexen's Yemen oil production operations. | | Creation and maintenance of a stable and skilled workforce with increasing capability for acceptance of more and more senior operational and managerial roles | | Sustainable improvements to essential services (education, health, water supply, electricity) in communities that are near Nexen's operations. | |

| Increasing representation of Yemen National employees in our workforce (currently at 65%, target of 80% by 2009). | | Students engaged in our Yemen Scholarship Program have experienced a high degree of academic success in Canadian University and Technical School programs in which they have been enrolled. | | An average of $600,000 per year has been invested in essential services in small communities near our Yemen operations and the majority of projects sponsored are self-sustaining. | |

| Nexen is continuing with the Yemen work force skills upgrading and Scholarships programs, as well as small scale community support programs. | | Nexen is preparing a proposal to sponsor a larger scale Yemen community water and sanitation program in partnership with the UN (under the Global Compact) and with other possible donors. If successful, this program will get underway in mid-2002. | |
