Community development team of TotalFinaElf-Indonesia and local representatives decided 7 goals to be achieved in cooperation with local community institutions, Government and local NGO's :

Improve level of education quality

Improve level of local health and nutrient

Improve an economic / increasing income activities

Improve quality of social institutions and services in villages

Increasing the number of public infrastructure

Maintain and improve the original East Kalimantan culture inheritance

Improve support to strategic planning in social and economic development

The first phase of project provided seed capital to local communities up to Rp 790 million (110 000 EUR) with a total number of beneficiaries of 778 people.

Small and medium local initiatives where created in all fields of local and traditional businesses.

A full review of this program was conducted in February 2001 to assess the actual impact of its action and to decide some possible extension. Almost all villages participating to the program proposed its extension and the local communities said that the program was very useful.

The program should be further developed into a saving / borrowing cooperative (i.e. Credit Union) to familiarize the beneficiaries with saving and to increase the seed capital from within the beneficiaries.
