Business Partnership Initiatives
BASD is assembling partnership initiatives to be presented on its website.
These will be fed into the official preparations and outcomes of the
Summit. Business is encouraged to submit
their own initiatives
The UN has issued an explanatory
note to provide further guidance on how
such initiatives may be considered in the context of the "Type 2"
partnerships for the Summit and how these may be linked to the official
"Type 1" outcomes.
Business Day
The programme
for the 'business day' at the Summit is currently being
finalised. The event aims to bring together leaders of business, government
and civil society to express commitments and initiatives in line with the
agenda and main objectives of the Summit. It will be held Sunday, 01
September 2002.
Prepcom III - New York 25 March - 5 April
The BASD representative strongly supported the partnership
initiatives,
calling for actions that deliver results rather than procedures. He said
that business was collecting flagship examples of real partnerships, and
that new efforts must address all three pillars of sustainable
development-economic growth, social development and environmental
protection-while focusing on measurable results that should be replicable
and capable of being scaled up.
