Aims/Objectives:

E+Co's mission is to bring together technology, people and funding to deliver clean energy to those in need. We establish local clean energy enterprises in developing countries, representing win-win, market-based solutions to the twin problems of meeting demand for energy services and protecting the environment.

We provide critical seed capital and business services, assuring that the right issues are being addressed from the human, financial and technical capacity points of view.

The combination of early-stage funding and enterprise development services ensure that the companies in which we invest are viable and sustainable.

Measurable results and specific targets:

Since founding, E+Co has invested in 77 enterprises in 34 developing countries.

Roughly $10 million of E+Co investment has led to $34 million of follow-on public and private investment.

A sample of 24 E+Co enterprises is providing clean energy services to more than 200,000 people.

The results of our new and ongoing investments are unambiguous and are measured monthly in progress reports by our regional investment officers.

We measure all social, environmental and economic impacts of our projects.

We measure success with each viable enterprise we help create and each new beneficiary of clean-energy services and power.

Implementation mechanisms and further application:

E+Co provides tools, training and seed capital for entrepreneurs in developing countries who want to start clean-energy enterprises.

E+Co also facilitates second-stage financing for these enterprises.

Partners in Africa, Latin America and Asia have begun replicating the E+Co enterprise-centered model, building global capacity and increasing dramatically the number of people who benefit from clean energy.
