Aims/Objectives:

Exploration of the rationale behind integrating biodiversity conservation into oil and gas operations

Identification and implementation of on-the-ground best technical and management practices

Determine metrics and performance indicators for measuring the positive and negative impact of oil and gas development on biodiversity

Determine criteria for deciding whether to undertake activities in sensitive environments

   

Measurable results and specific targets:

Q1 2003: Publish report of on-the-ground best technical and management practices

Q1 2003: Publish metrics and performance indicators for measuring the positive and negative impact of oil and gas development on biodiversity

Q1 2003: Publish criteria for deciding whether to undertake activities in sensitive environments

   

Implementation mechanisms and further application:

At the end of the two-year period, the participants will consider whether to extend their collaboration

Potential future activities might include voluntary collaboration among existing participants, bilateral partnerships between individual energy companies and conservation groups, an expanded dissemination and outreach process, or active engagement of others within the industry.
