| The Global Health Initiative is designed to foster greater private sector engagement in the global battle against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. The GHI aims to: | | Increase business awareness and develop resources such as workplace guidelines, service provider directories and advocacy tools; | | Leverage the World Economic Forum's Regional Summits to raise the profile of issues relating to HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria, dissiminating information and facilitating public/private partnerships; | | Stimulate partnership and cooperation among multiple stakeholders; and | | Facilitate private sector engagement with the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. | |

Measurable results and specific
targets: |
| World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2001 - The Global Health Initiative partnership formed. | | World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2002 - The GHI Task Force presented reports including: a corporate 'call to action'; the Executive Statement; a review of the business case for companies to engage against HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria; options and best practices for workplace and community programmes; best practices for corporate advocacy; and best practices for corporate philanthropy, including launch of World Economic Forum/UNAIDS partnership menus. | | The GHI is currently emphasising the implementation of its recommendations and the application of the tools it has helped to create. | | The GHI sees a crucial measure of success the extent to which broader collaboration in the service of concrete improvement in global public health is achieved. The desired outcome is further regional and global collaboration between and across sectors that creates innovative projects and partnerships. | |

Implementation mechanisms
and further application: |
| The task force is pursuing its primary objective of facilitating increased private sector activity to combat HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria through the following mechanisms: | | By identifying best practices for the private sector and by increasing knowledge about the business case for an expanded role in community health; | | By developing tools to help private and public donors leverage each other's capacities; | | By recommending ways in which business can lend its voice to advocacy for global public health; and | | By leading by example through specific additional corporate commitments and actions. | | The GHI plans to build on its foundation established in 2001 by leveraging the World Economic Forum's unique convening power and global network of relationships to drive regional implementation efforts. | |
